Project introduction

In this Human Rights project I will mainly focus on the human right against discrimination. I will explore this subject in the form of posters, book covers and design sheets, these will relate to a graphic novel I have created which I feel explores the theme of human rights.
There are a few characters and groups in my comic that hold, or have to deal with, extremist beliefs that are discriminatory against certain people and ignore basic human rights. These include- freedom of speech, protection against slavery, the right to a fair trial, respect for privacy, and the right to life.

The graphic novel is in the form of a series of comic books, each explore a variety of different characters and stories from the perspective of the main character, Alex.
Alex is a person who could be considered morally ambiguous. Some may believe this makes him a bad person but he is actually just ignorant of human morals. This is because early in his life he was secluded from society, and once free has grown up in a world which largely lacks moral codes and even those who have them are required to break them occasionally in order to survive the harsh environment.
In the comic lore life before the apocalypse was harsh in Britain, ruled by a ruthless dictator who cared little for the welfare of working people and had a network of secret police which kept people in order, but after the war between the British Empire and the GAOE, the world has been stripped of morals and laws and people are free to abuse this in any way they dare. This has lead to slavery, massacres, civil rivalry, and discrimination. The main object of abuse and hatred is cyborgs and a form of mutated human called waterborn, most of which were previously the working class of the British empire. The hatred for these groups of people has been spread and spurred on by the post-apocalyptic ruler, Oscar, a manipulative psychopath who appears as a benevolent protector of humanity. He is the ruler of the safest settlement on earth, protected by impenetrable cliffs. He shuns any cyborgs or waterborn that dare show their face at the gates of his great settlement. He claims the reason for this is to preserve the purity of humanity, that they are diseased and will compromise their survival, using up resources they can't afford to loose.
But the reality is much more than just that, he is afraid of them, believes they are spies of an organisation he originally founded, The Network, the secret police of the British Empire. Oscar betrayed them and the president so he could take control of Britain himself, founding Sanctuary as his capital. The Network want revenge, they level whole towns to kidnap people for their sinister experiments. they mutilate and modify people turning them into super soldiers lacking creative individual thought.  They are building an onslaught, powerful enough to trump the power of Oscar's new empire. This is why Oscar does not trust any genetically or mechanically modified human.

I will explore these facist character's ideals in my art and evaluate how it would support their goals and influence the misguided.
